LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO PASS BILL HR 3771
I’m a rising senior at Syosset High School and a resident of Muttontown, NY. This bill affects my family on a personal level. In early 2019, my grandfather passed out while he was at a local barbershop. After several detailed tests, it was diagnosed that he had two arteries with 90% blockage. We need to be proactive and promote awareness amongst South Asians to achieve “heart health success”. Let’s work together to get HR 3771 passed!

The South Asian community is disproportionately affected by heart disease. South Asians living in the U.S. are four times more likely to have heart disease than the general public. South Asians experience heart attacks at younger ages, on average 10 years earlier. Mortality from heart disease is up to 50% higher among South Asians than in any other ethnic group. South Asians have a low body mass index, they tend to accumulate a lot of fat in certain parts of the body like the abdominal area, that causes different types of inflammation and activate certain biological pathways that contribute to Atherosclerosis or "hardening of arteries.”
